Phase 1: Mapping regime shifts

At this stage of the project, we will use systematic mapping approaches to reconstruct the history of regime shifts in marine systems. The goal is to identify synchronies and structural similarities between events observed in different areas of the world, in order to determine whether teleconnections exist between distant ecosystems.

Connectivity between systems can manifest in various ways: through spatial links, via mobile organisms such as migratory animals, or as a result of global human pressures affecting multiple systems simultaneously. This initial phase of the project will be crucial for laying the foundation for a more integrated and comparative understanding of these phenomena.
